Maria Farantouri and Zulfu Livaneli sing for peace
Greek singer Maria Farantouri and Turkish composer Zulfu Livaneli will join their voices in a concert at Herodes Atticus Odeon in Athens on Thursday, 7 September. The concert will be a celebration of solidarity and peaceful coexistence between peoples.
Farantouri and Livaneli have been friends for over 40 years, and their collaboration includes concerts in Greece, Turkey, and worldwide. They have released two albums, 'Maria Farantouri Sings Livaneli (1982) and 'The Memory of Water' (2005), which audiences in both countries have enjoyed.
According to the Greek news site Huffpost, the Herodes Atticus concert will feature songs from Farantouri and Livaneli's joint repertoire and works by Mikis Theodorakis. Theodorakis and Livaneli co-founded the Greek-Turkish Friendship Committee in the late 1980s, and both have been outspoken advocates for peace and understanding between the two countries.
The concert will also feature the ERT National Symphony Orchestra, with Görkem Ezgi Yildirim as guest soloist.
