Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on the sidelines of the 18th G20 Leaders' Summit, where the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war and cooperation strategies in the energy sector took center stage.
According to the Anadolu News Agency, the two leaders addressed the current state and potential improvement of Turkish-German relations in their bilateral talks. There was a significant exchange of views on the reactivation of the Turkey-EU dialogue mechanism and on pressing regional and global issues.
Erdogan expressed his best wishes to Chancellor Scholz on his recent accident. Referring to the remarkable $45 billion trade volume between Turkey and Germany in 2022, Turkey's President stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation in critical sectors. These include energy supply, renewable energy, innovation, and technology transfer to ensure the continued growth of bilateral trade, reports the Turkish agency.
Key Turkish officials such as Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Head of the National Intelligence Organization İbrahim Kalin, and Presidential Advisor on Foreign Policy and Security Akif Çagatay Kilic attended the meeting.
