“Greeks, Turks fighting side by side, together to save lives”
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has posted a Tweet on Tuesday, pointing out the joint efforts made by Turkish and Greek search and rescue teams to save lives in Turkey’s earthquake.
“Images that fill us with pain are followed by images that fill us with hope. We simply respect the superhuman efforts of the rescue teams. Greeks and Turks are fighting side by side, together to save lives. We are grateful to them for what they did,” he wrote.

At least 5,894 people were killed in two major earthquakes that struck ten provinces in Southeastern Turkey on Monday. Following the quakes with magnitudes of 7.7 and 7.6 respectively, countries around the world including Greece have sent search and rescue teams to help Turkey.
A special rescue team from the Greek Special Disaster Response Unit (EMAK), consisting of 21 firefighters, two doctors, three emergency medical personnel and two search and rescue dogs was transferred to the country on Tuesday.
