Iran asserts stance amid Armenia-Azerbaijan tensions, engages in bilateral talks with Iraq

Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Ashtiani, Defense Minister of Iran, clarified the Islamic Republic's position on recent regional tensions, particularly between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Speaking in Tehran after a cabinet session on Wednesday, Ashtiani stated emphatically that Iran anticipates no war in the region and that the country's stance on regional geopolitics remains unambiguous, IRNA reports.

Following recent discussions within the Iranian Armed Forces General Staff, the Islamic Republic has reasserted its commitment to preserving regional geopolitical stability. "We will not accept any change in regional geopolitics," emphasized the defense minister. He further concluded that the recent developments in the Caucasus region do not indicate any significant forthcoming event.

In a separate development reflecting Iran's active diplomatic engagements, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian met with his Iraqi counterpart, Fuad Hussein, who led a delegation to Tehran on Wednesday morning. Their discussions spanned a range of pivotal subjects, including international and regional matters, bilateral issues, and the ongoing implementation of their bilateral security agreement. During his visit, the Iraqi foreign minister is expected to explore further mutual interests and recent regional developments with Iranian officials.
