Amid regional tensions, Iran and Armenia emphasize strengthening bilateral relations.

Iran has reaffirmed its commitment to securing Armenia's territorial integrity; a stance made clear during a meeting between Iran's ambassador to Armenia, Mehdi Sobhani, and the Armenian Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan. The meeting, which took place in Yerevan on Monday, highlighted Iran's interest in safeguarding the rights of Armenians in the Karabakh region and enhancing relations with Armenia. The news was reported by IRNA.

During their discussion, Sobhani conveyed that the Islamic Republic of Iran prioritizes protecting the security and rights of Armenians living in the Karabakh region. This sentiment was expressed through an official press release from the Iranian Embassy in the Armenian capital.

Further emphasizing Iran's commitment to strengthening ties, the ambassador expressed the nation's desire to develop multifaceted relations with Armenia, encompassing various fields.

Prime Minister Pashinyan acknowledged the robust dialogue with President Ebrahim Raisi of Iran, noting that it continually bolsters cooperation between the neighboring nations. During what he described as a "difficult time" for the region, Pashinyan emphasized the importance of maintaining active and amicable relations between Tehran and Yerevan.

Besides geopolitical matters, the two officials discussed bilateral issues of mutual interest, including trade, the economy, and health sectors.

Appointed in March of this year, Sobhani began his diplomatic mission in Yerevan approximately four months after his nomination. Pashinyan expressed optimism for the relationship between the two nations, hoping it will further strengthen during Sobhani's tenure.

The backdrop to this meeting remains the enduring tensions between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the Nagorno-Karabakh region, a territory the two nations have contested for decades. The reaffirmation of support from Iran is pivotal as regional dynamics continue to develop.
