Samvel Shahramanyan stresses the principle of self-determination and the importance of the Lachin Corridor.

In his first address during his election, Samvel Shahramanyan, the new president of internationally unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh), reiterated the region's need for recognition and a clear land connection with Armenia via the Lachin Corridor.

As reported by Armenpress, during the parliamentary discussion of his candidacy, Shahramanyan stated, "Nagorno-Karabakh should receive a status, and we must establish a direct connection with Armenia through the Lachin Corridor. Other routes may be opened, but this corridor should remain the same.

Shahramanyan stressed the need for negotiations, suggesting multilateral and bilateral formats backed by a third-party guarantee. "Stepanakert should be central to these discussions," he added.

In his speech, Shahramanyan expressed concern over actions threatening statehood's very foundation. He stressed the need for a united front to ensure that Artsakh remains Armenian. He focused on strengthening statehood, promoting internal stability, advocating Artsakh's right to self-determination, improving socio-economic conditions, and establishing law and order. In addition, Shahramanyan touched upon regional challenges, Azerbaijan's policies, and the dynamics of Artsakh-Armenia relations.
