Italian Deputy Premier criticizes Turkish President's characterization of Hamas.

Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Industry Matteo Salvini on Wednesday condemned Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for calling Hamas "liberators" fighting for their country rather than terrorists.

According to the ANSA, Salvini said Erdogan's words were "serious and disgusting and do not help de-escalation." He added that he would ask Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani to summon the Turkish ambassador and lodge a formal protest.

Salvini sharply criticized Erdogan's defense of Hamas, calling the Turkish president's remarks "disgusting." This came after Erdogan referred to Hamas as "liberators" rather than terrorists. In response, Salvini said he would call for the Turkish ambassador to be summoned over the matter.
