After 11 years, Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu will visit Egypt in response to an invitation from his Egyptian counterpart to discuss bilateral relations, regional and international issues.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu will make an official visit to Egypt on Saturday, responding to an invitation from his Egyptian counterpart Samih Shoukry, Turkey’s Foreign Ministry announced on Friday.

According to the information provided by the Ministry, Cavusoglu and Shoukry will discuss all aspects of bilateral relations between Turkey and Egypt, as well as exchange views on regional and international issues.

This will be the first visit by a Turkish foreign minister to Egypt in 11 years, with Cavusoglu becoming the first to make the trip.

In February, Shoukry visited Turkey to express solidarity and condolences after the massive earthquakes that hit Turkey on Feb. 6 and killed more than 49,000. During his visit, he also met with Minister Cavusoglu.

Egypt had also sent humanitarian aid to Turkey for earthquake victims.

The upcoming meeting is seen as a positive step towards improving relations between the two countries, which have been strained in recent years due to various regional and political issues.
