Vice-president of French Senate receives AANES delegation
The Vice-president of the French Senate received a delegation of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) on Tuesday in Paris, France, North Press Agency reported.
The delegation, including the co-chair of the Department of Foreign Relations of AANES Dr. Abdulkarim Omar, expressed their gratitude for a recent declaration by 102 French parliamentary members who urged Western states to oppose a possible Turkish incursion into north Syria.
Laurent said in the meeting that it is essential to prevent any attack or invasion into north Syria because it will lead to humanitarian tragedies and will benefit the Islamic State (ISIS).
Dr. Omar tweeted after the meeting:
"Yesterday, we had the honour to meet VP of French Senate, Mr Pierre Laurent. We thanked him and his colleagues for their solidarity with AANES/SDF. He affirmed their commitment to support the region against Daesh [ISIS], and to prevent any potential Turkish military aggression in future."
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has repeatedly expressed his determination since early June to launch a fresh military campaign in northern Syria to extend a "security corridor" against "terror threats."
The AANES, a political entity established in the region during the Syrian civil war under the leadership of the pro-Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD), is regarded as a security threat by the Turkish administration.
