Turkey’s unemployment rate edges up to 10.2 percent

The number of jobless people rose by 57,000 compared to the previous month

Turkey's unemployment rate increased to 10.2 percent in October, Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) said on Monday.

The figure is up by 0.1 percentage points from the previous month, the country’s statistical authority’s

data showed.

The number of jobless people increased by 57,000 month-on-month to 3.53 million, TUIK said.

The unemployment rate for men stood at 8.6 percent, while for women at 13.3 percent.

TUIK said the workforce in Turkey increased by 229,000 month-on-month to 31.2 million.

The labour force participation rose by 0.3 percentage points to 48 percent. The participation rate for men was 65.6 percent and 30.8 percent for women, TUIK data showed.

The unemployment rate for the young population aged between 15-24 rose by 1.8 percent from the previous month, standing at 21,9 percent.
