Unemployment rate in Turkey remains stable in May

Because of the government policies to stimulate the economy with low interest rates, Turkey’s unemployment rate remained stable over the past year.
Turkey’s unemployment rate declined to 10.9 percent in May, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) said on Wednesday. The jobless rate in April was 11.2 percent.
The number of unemployed people aged 15 and over decreased by 56 thousand in May, TUIK compared.
Because of government policies to stimulate the economy with low interest rates, Turkey’s unemployment rate remained stable over the past year. But especially the lack of jobs for younger people is a concern for the ruling AKP government ahead of next year’s elections.
Youth unemployment, covering the 15-24 age group, became 20.3 percent with an increase of 0.2 points in May, Tuik said.
The average youth unemployment rate in OECD countries is 11.3 percent.
