Circassians in Turkey suffer racist harassment in a bus
A Circassian commuter suffered racist harassment in a bus in Turkey’s central Kayseri while he was speaking in Circassian language with his mother.
“This is Turkey. You don’t speak any language other than Turkish here” shouted one of the passengers as he silenced the family.
In a video recording of the incident, the offender was seen intimidating the family:
“This is the country of the Turks. Everything is Turkish, not Circassian. You don’t speak a second language here. Whether it’s Kurdish or Circassian. Whoever. This country is Turkish”
The Circassian Associations Federation condemned the attack and pledged to follow the outcome, as it asked the authorities to capture the harasser.

????#Turkey is a diverse country regarding #ethnicidentity. But speaking a #nativelanguage in public still appears to be a #hostile act.
