Drone attack kills three in northern Syria
A drone attack near a residential area on Qamishli-Tirbespi (al-Qahtaniyah) road killed three and several others, local news agencies and the SOHR (Syrian Observatory for Human Rights) reported.
Local ANHA agency posted a video of a burning vehicle in the area controlled by The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), a mainly Kurdish de facto autonomous region in northeastern Syria.
AANES-affiliated Ronahi TV said three people were killed without identifying them.
The SOHR confirmed the attack saying it caused deaths and injuries but did not give any numbers.
The war monitoring group said this was the fourth attack in the region in the last 48 hours. Since the beginning of 2022, 38 air strikes by Turkish forces have killed 38 in the region, the SOHR said.
Turkey regularly attacks the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the military force of the AANES claiming the SDF and its main component, the People’s Protection Units (YPG) is an extension of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), a militant group labeled as terrorist also by the US and the EU.
However the international community including the US distinguishes between the two Kurdish groups and the SDF has been a key U.S. ally in the against Islamic State.
