A neighborhood close to the town center has been targeted allegedly by a Turkish drone strike that killed a young man and injured a woman.

A young man was killed by a Turkish drone strike in Yazidi homeland Sinjar (Shengal) in Northern Iraq on Thursday, Roj News reported.

A vehicle was targeted in a neighborhood near the town center around 06:20 PM local time, Roj News said.

While a man identified as Mehsin Semo was killed by the strike, an unidentified woman was injured.

The injured woman was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Several drone attacks have been carried out by the The Turkish military in Sinjar in the last couple of years.

More recently, Sardasht camp for internally displaced people was targeted by a Turkish drone strike on 6 October, without casualties, and earlier, the town center was hit by a Turkish drone on 23 September.

The Sinjar Defense Units (YBS), a Yazidi self defense force that emerged in 2007 to protect Yazidis in the wake of attacks by Sunni Islamist groups, is accused by Turkish officials of being affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), designated a "terrorist group" by Ankara.

YBS also played an important role in the resistance against the Islamic State (ISIS) when the latter attacked Sinjar in 2014.
