Abdi said ISIS’ moves coincide with the ongoing Turkish threats to target the security and stability of the region

General Mozloum Abdi, the chief commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) has warned that the Islamic State (ISIS) is making “dangerous preparations” in Northern Syria.

ISIS on Monday has attacked SDF forces in Northeastern city of Raqqa, killing six fighters and wounding ten, Abdi said.

“These moves by the terrorists coincide with the ongoing Turkish threats to target the security and stability of the region,”, Rudaw cited Abdi as saying.

“Information received from Raqqa indicates dangerous preparations by ISIS cells. We must not tolerate it,” Abdi said.

A police station near a prison compound was targeted on Monday by five ISIS members, including suicide bombers, Hawar News Agency (ANHA) reported. A curfew was declared in the city, the roads were blocked, and a combing operation was launched by the police and the SDF units.

Raqqa that used to be the capital city of ISIS from 2014 to 2017, was liberated from the terrorist group in October 2017 by the SDF, and has subsequently been under the control of the Kurdish-led Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).

Turkey has been conducting aerial attacks into Northern Syria since last month, targeting Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) which forms the backbone of the US-backed SDF. Ankara also threatens a land operation into the region to combat Kurdish militants.

Kurdish-led SDF is allied with the West in its fight against the ISIS in Syria.
