EL's President Heinz Bierbaum has called on parties "to take action to prevent yet another humanitarian catastrophe in the region."

The Party of European Left (EL) condemned the Turkish military's recent air raids in Northern Syria and urged the international community not to remain silent in the face of these attacks.

"The coordinated airstrikes by Turkish jets on multiple civilian villages in Northeast Syria, including Kobani, are extremely unsafe and deserve prompt international attention," Heinz Bierbaum, the President of the EL said.

"The international community should not remain silent in the face of such heinous acts, which are flagrant violations of humanitarian and international law. The Party of European Left declares its unwavering commitment to maintaining world peace and stability and exhorts all parties to take action to prevent yet another humanitarian catastrophe in the region. We strongly condemn Turkey’s aggression against Syrian Kurds and civilians and support democratic movements in Turkey and abroad."

The EL also expressed support for the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Ddemocratic Party (HDP) in Turkey.

The member parties of the EL have 28 seats in the European Parliament.
