Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces claim Turkish artillery targeted a village in the Ain Issa district

A statement published by the media office of the SDF identified the casualties as Shiekh Mohammed, 25, and Buzan Awsi, age unknown. According to the statement, the artillery barrage hit the village of Hoshan in northwestern Ain Issa. The shelling also injured at least two more people, aged 16 and 25, the SDF said.

The attack comes as Ankara is gearing up for yet another military incursion into Syria. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that the next operation would target the SDF-controlled towns of Manbij and Tal Rifaat in northern Syria. Ankara’s stated purpose is to extend a 30-kilometer deep “safe zone” it began creating along its southern border by capturing the two towns.
