Turkey’s southwestern Mugla province that suffered devastating wildfires last summer, is battling new blazes.

The fire broke out in Mugla’s Datca district on Wednesday, spread rapidly due to windy conditions and yet not brought under control, state-run Anadolu news agency said, citing district governor Mesut Coban.

Last summer, wildfires demolished tens of thousands of hectares of forest in Turkey’s Mediterranean and Aegean provinces, killing eight people.

Some houses in the region have been evacuated, Hurriyet newspaper said.

Veysel Tiryaki, Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Forestry said the firefighting efforts to contaminate the blazes continues at utmost strength.

Mugla is home to Bodrum and Marmaris, Turkey’s top tourist destinations.
