Turkish drone strike kills two people near US base in Northeast Syria
Two people were killed by a Turkish drone strike on Tuesday in a village near the Kurdish-majority city of Qamisli in Northeast Syria, Hawar News Agency (ANHA) reported.
A vehicle was targeted by the drone in the village of Til Jeman, 5 km to the town of Girke Lege (Al-Maabadah), ANHA said.
Qamisli is situated on the Turkish-Syrian border, adjoining the city of Nusaybin in Turkey.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) confirmed the attack, saying that the Turkish drone killed two members of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which Ankara claims have ties to the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
SOHR noted that the area in Qamishli countryside hosts one of the largest US military bases in Northeast Syria, and that the attack took place in a place close to the US base.
ANHA later said that the two fatalities have been identified as Zeynep Mihemed and Yilmaz Sero, who were serving as local co-chairs of the Office of Justice under the Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).
