Turkey’s earthquake death toll rises to 1,541

The death toll has risen to 1,498 people in the earthquake, adding at least 9,733 were injured

At least 1,541 people were killed and 9,733 injured in an earthquake that struck Southern Turkey on Monday.

Kahramanmaras province was the epicenter of the earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 on the Richter scale on Monday morning at 04:17 local time.

The number of buildings collapsed were announced as 3,471.

Gaziantep, Sanliurfa, Diyarbakir, Adana, Adiyaman, Malatya, Osmaniye, Hatay and Kilis provinces were also severely affected by the quake, the agency said.

Nearly 10,000 members of search and rescue teams are showing great efforts in the harsh winter conditions, it said.
