Erdogan drops complaints for insults against his person in earthquake zone
President Tayyip Erdogan on Friday dropped charges of insults against him in the earthquake zone.
"Our president dropped his complaints in the investigative and criminal cases for insults against him in the 11 provinces affected by the earthquake and their settlements." Erdogan's lawyer Huseyin Aydın announced on Twitter."
Erdogan has brought thousands of lawsuits against people since 2018, when the "presidential system of government" was introduced.
According to a September 2022 calculation, the number of investigations totaled 194,142 and the number of cases initiated totaled 44,675 since Erdogan was first elected president in 2014.
According to the Ministry of Justice, only one child under the age of 18 was prosecuted for insulting the president in 2014, but that number rose to 305 by 2021.
