Hatay earthquake report released: 89,025 buildings lost
According to Arti Gercek, the damage assessment studies conducted in Hatay, which suffered great destruction after the Maras-centered February 6 earthquakes and the 6.4 magnitude Defne-centered tremor on February 20, have been completed.
The number of buildings that collapsed, must be urgently demolished, or have sustained heavy damage were identified in the 15 districts of the city. According to the study, there were 13,517 collapsed buildings, 8,162 buildings identified for demolition, and 67,346 heavily damaged buildings.
6,369 of the collapsed buildings were in Antakya alone, where there are also 3,734 buildings that need to be urgently demolished. 21,830 heavily damaged buildings were also detected in the ancient city.
Kirikhan and Hassa followed Antakya with the highest number of collapsed structures, with 1,886 and 1,046 buildings, respectively. In terms of urgent demolitions, Defne and Altinozu followed Antakya, while in terms of heavily damaged buildings, the Defne and Samandag districts followed Antakya.
While the results of the studies have been released for public review, the objection process regarding the status of the buildings is still ongoing.
