New moderate tremors hit Diyarbakir, Maras, Bingol on Wednesday
Following the two major earthquakes that struck Turkey’s southeast on Feb.6 claiming more than 42,000 lives so far, the mobility in fault lines continues in the region.
Turkey’s Eastern Bingol and Southeastern Diyarbakir and Kahramanmaras provinces were hit by moderate earthquakes on Wednesday morning, the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) announced.
AFAD said a tremor with a magnitude of 4.4 has hit Bingol’s Genc district at 10:09 a.m. local time, originating at a depth of 9 kilometers.
Diyarbakir’s Dicle district was also hit by an earthquake of magnitude of 4.0 on the Richter Scale, AFAD said, reporting the time of the quake as 06:04 a.m. local time at a depth of 7 kilometers.
Kahramanmaras’ Elbistan district, which was the epicenter of the second tremor of Feb.6 with a magnitude of 7.6, was also hit at 08:50 a.m. local time by a tremor of 4.1 magnitude, AFAD said.
Tremors above a magnitude of 4.0 were also occurred in the Mediterranean Sea, it said.
