Qatar has donated 10,000 mobile homes from last year’s World Cup to provide shelter for Turkey’s and Syria’s earthquake survivors.
An initial batch of 350 structures that have hosted some of the 1.4 million visitors to the soccer’s biggest tournament in 2022, was shipped out on Sunday, AP reported, citing the Qatar Fund for Development.
Following two massive earthquakes on Feb.6, that claimed at least 36,187 lives in Turkey’s southeast, have also left hundreds of thousands of people without a roof on top in severe winter conditions.
Over 61,000 buildings had either collapsed or in urgent need of demolition, or severely damaged across ten provinces, according to Turkish Urbanization Ministry data.
