Turkish Cypriot high-school volleyball team of 35 still under rubble
A high-school volleyball team from Northern Cyprus who was in Adiyaman for a sports tournament has been trapped under a hotel’s rubble that was completely collapsed during a devastating earthquake on Monday.
The team consisting of a total of 39 people, mostly the children between the ages of 12 and 18 was accomodating in Adiyaman’s ISIAS Hotel.
Four people who were trapped close to the surface of the rubble were saved alive on the first day of the rescue efforts, however the rest 35 people have not been reached yet.
The search and rescue operation in the building has been launched after the Northern Cypriot administration sent its own teams and equipment from the Mediterranean island.
A total of 140 people were staying at the hotel, according to the regional reports.
