Turkish popstar Tarkan: Turkey does not deserve this
Turkish popstar Tarkan blasted Turkish authorities of not accepting their mistakes and negligence in the massive destruction caused by the earthquakes.
“On the contrary, not those responsible for the deaths of thousands of people, but those who came to help, were set on fire. Our nation does not deserve this,” Tarkan said via Twitter on Wednesday.
On Feb.6, Turkey’s southeast was hit by two major earthquakes of magnitude of 7.7 and 7.6, claiming over 35,000 lives so far.
Strongly criticizing Turkish authorities over the outcome of the disaster, “One more time, our people paid the price of negligence with their lives,” Tarkan said.
“Like everyone else, I am watching the earthquake disaster with great sadness and tears. I know it's been underlined many times, but I can't help but say it. If the authorities in our country, which is an earthquake country, had listened to the warnings of scientists and had taken the necessary precautions beforehand, the destruction caused by the earthquake would not have occurred at this level. One more time, our people paid the price of negligence with their lives. While our hearts are burning as a nation, at a time when everyone has become one heart, while search and rescue teams, non-governmental organizations and citizens have been struggling for days to keep hopes alive, no one from the authorities puts their hands on their hearts and consciences with sincere sadness and accept their mistakes and negligence in this result. On the contrary, not those responsible for the deaths of thousands of people but those who came to help, were set on fire. Unbelievable. What a pity. Our nation does not deserve this.”
