327 women killed by men in Turkey in 2022
Men killed at least 337 women in 2022 and injured 793 others, according to data compiled by Bianet from Turkish media.
26 of the women killed were either under police "protection" or had "restraining orders" against men when they were murdered.
The number of femicides has increased significantly in Turkey in the 2000s but since statistics on the number of women killed by their partners or family members in Turkey are not shared by relevant government agencies, official data is considered insufficient and several NGOs keep track of femicides.
According to the data, 208 women were killed in their homes and 98 outside their homes.
236 women were killed by men closest to them, their partners such as husbands or boyfriends, 30 women were killed by family members such as their brothers, fathers, or sons, and 22 women were killed by male relatives.
The main reasons given by the criminals to normalize their crimes were the women's demand for separation, honor, deceit and jealousy. The men killed 110 women because "they wanted to separate" or "did not accept their marriage proposal," while they killed seven women "out of jealousy," two women to seize their property, and ten women because of their "inherited wealth" or for "economic interest"
In 2022, men in Turkey killed 39 children, raped 32 women, forced 442 women into sex work, molested 156 women, and abused 238 children, according to Bianet.
