The figures were revealed in a written answer to the deputy of the Left Party Sevim Dagdelen’s parliamentary question, Deutsche Welle Turkish reported. The federal government said that at least 27 German citizens could not leave Turkey due to travel bans imposed on them by Ankara and at least four German citizens were refused entry to the country in 2022. The written response did not mention the reason for the travel bans.

According to the Foreign Ministry of Germany, 104 German citizens living in Turkey could not return to Germany as of June. 55 of them were incarcerated in Turkey, while 49 of them were under travel bans.

The German government’s written answer also mentioned that Turkey put in 214 search warrants via The International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) in the first 6 months of 2022. 204 of these applications included requests for arrests. The answer did not specify how many of the requests were granted.
