Black wreaths placed by opposition in protest against Erdogan's fake video scheme
The representatives of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) placed black wreaths on Tuesday outside the offices of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in protest against President Recep Tayyip Edogan who had a fake opposition campaign video played before supporters at a rally ahead of the elections on 14 May.
President Erdogan admitted yesterday in a live broadcast that the video may be a manipulated one, adding it would still not matter anyway.
The fake video has inserted images of a senior Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) figure, who appears in the video after opposition's presidential candidate Kemal Kilicdaroglu. The video gives the impression that he is singing the campaign song and clapping hands to the beat.
A black wreath was placed by the chairwoman of CHP Istanbul branch Canan Kaftancioglu in front of AKP offices in Istanbul. The sign on the wreath read, "We will not reconcile with video-manipulating tricksters."
In a public statement, Kaftancioglu addressed AKP officials, saying:
"You have taken this organized act of evil to such an extent that the devil himself would blush. You have cast aside fear of God, conscience, ethics, all positive sentiments, and dumped your evil not just on top of us but on the entire Turkish people. Through doctored images you presented things that do not exist as existing, you deceived."
She added:
"We announce that we will never reconcile with those who have taken the path of evil, who in acts of evil dwarfed the devil. We'll deal with them!"
The hashtag "Canan Kaftancioglu" quickly became trending in Twitter after the protest.
