Demirtas blasts "agent provocateurs who infiltrated opposition parties"
Imprisoned Kurdish politician Selahattin Demirtas said on Friday that the ruling Justice and Development Party's (AKP) "agent provocateurs who have infiltrated the opposition parties will be exposed in the course of the elections."
He said on Twitter:
"AKP's agent provocateurs who have infiltrated the opposition parties will be exposed in the course of the coming elections. These agents had critical impacts from the inside in the 2017 referendum and 2018 elections. This time they will all be exposed. It's not that easy now. Game is over. The people will have it their way."
He continued:
"Our people should be aware that we have rendered useless through our resistance the most far reaching liquidation operations of our political history. They could not captivate us. Attempts to discredit and destroy us have been thwarted by the people's confidence, sympathy and will."
He added:
"Those who do not have any knowledge of the democracy and freedom movement's history of resistance will be flung into the dump heap of history alongside their 'bosses.' Change has started. No shady circle will be able to stop it now. Beautiful days are coming. Not so much left to peace and prosperity. Let's continue to work together with enthusiasm."
Selahattin Demirtas, the former co-chair of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), has been incarcerated since November 2016, and is denied release despite a ruling by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) who said his detention "pursued the ulterior purpose of stifling pluralism and limiting freedom of political debate" and ordered his immediate release.
