Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan had a fake video played before his supporters on Sunday at his election campaign rally in Istanbul.

The video shows Murat Karayilan, a senior official of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), appear in a campaign video of Kemal Kilicdaroglu, the opposition's joint presidential candidate.

Karayilan appears after Kilicdaroglu calls on voters to go to ballot boxes, sings the campaign song, and claps hands to the beat.

During the Istanbul rally, as Karayilan appeared in the fake video, Erdogan was heard addressing his supporters, "Watch this, this is very important."

He also stressed in his address that it would be the voters of Istanbul that would be decisive at the elections on 14 May.

He said:

"God willing, we'll never let their [opposition's] nightmares end. Are we ready for that? Are we flooding into the ballot boxes and bringing our close ones to vote? I trust you. Your are Istanbul. If Istanbul says 'Yes,' it will be decisive. If Istanbul says, 'We'll retire some one,' it will be decisive."
