Merel Aksener, leader of the Good Party, said she does not believe that elections could be held on May 14. In her opinion, the election date will be postponed to June 18

The leader of the Good Party, Meral Aksener, believes the elections scheduled for May 14 will be postponed after the earthquakes in Maras killed thousands of people in 10 provinces.

"I do not think the elections can be held on May 14," Aksener said, according to journalist Murat Yetkin.

During a visit to Maras, the epicenter of the earthquake, Aksener answered his questions. Here is the relevant excerpt:

"We ask: Will the earthquake affect the election date? Will Erdogan force the postponement of the elections after the state of emergency?

Aksener answers the question with a displeased expression on her face:

"I do not think they can be held on May 14. But I think they will be brought forward to June 18.”

And what about the postponement? Article 78 of the Constitution says that the National Assembly can decide to postpone the elections for one year if new elections are not possible due to war.

Aksener does not believe that the parliament will make such a decision. She adds: "We politicians must do our part to ensure that the elections take place.
