HDP plans to launch fundraising campaign after top court freezes Treasury funds
Turkey’s pro-Kurdish People’s Democratic Party (HDP) is planning a fundraising campaign for the upcoming elections should the Constitutional Court upholds its decision to block the party’s Treasury aid accounts, Medya News reported.
HDP will launch the campaign for individual donations, the news website said citing party executives on Sunday.
Turkey's Constitutional Court on Thursday has ruled to temporarily block HDP’s Treasury aid accounts, which will mean a major blow to the party ahead of this year’s elections.
After HDP's defense that is expected to be presented in a month, the Court will decide whether the accounts should be permanently blocked or unblocked.
The party was set to receive 539 million lira ($29 million) for 2023, 179 million lira ($9.6 million) of which was to be received on Jan 10.
Senior figures from the HDP accused the Constitutional Court of acting as a tool in Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s election campaign. The court is also considering a closure on the party for alleged terrorism links.
