A court sentenced Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu to 2 years and 7 months of jail sentence which also bans him from politics. But the ruling has to be finalized before being implemented

Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoglu was sentenced to 2 years 7 months and 15 days in prison for insulting the members of an election board in a hearing on Wednesday where the court ruling also banned him from politics, a decision which needs to be finalized by the supreme court to be implemented.

During the hearing, the prosecutor reiterated his demand for İmamoğlu to be sentenced to 4 years and 1 month in prison for the crime of "openly insulting public officials working as a committee" and the application of Article 53 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK), which includes "political prohibition".
