Kilicdaroglu to "certainly" visit the HDP to ask for support
CHP (Republican People's Party) leader and joint opposition bloc' candidate Kemal Kilicdaroglu said he would "of course" visit the pro-Kurdish HDP (Peoples’ Democratic Party) after the latter’s Co-Chair Mithat Sancar said he expected a visit to talk on principles.
In an interview with Halk TV on Thursday, Kilicdaroglu said it was only natural for him to undertake such a visit.
“Of course I will visit HDP. As a presidential candidate, as someone who claims to be the president of all of Turkey, of 85 million, it is a requirement of democracy for me to visit all parties. What's wrong with visiting HDP,” he said.
Kilicdaroglu reminded that all parties in Turkey worked with the HDP deputies in the parliament
“There is nothing more natural than visiting HDP. I already have an understanding that tries to reach all segments of society, and I tried to implement it. I will continue to work in this direction,” he added.
Nationalist component of the bloc, the Good Party earlier stated that they would not mind Kilicdaroglu visiting the HDP but they would not accept negotiating with the pro-Kurdish party.
The HDP, with its 10-12 voter support is widely seen as a kingmaker in presidential and parliamentary elections expected on May 14 and the opposition bloc will likely need their support to end Erdogan's two-decade political rule.
