Kurdish youth killed after allegedly jumping out of courthouse window in Turkey
A Kurdish youth on Friday was killed after he allegedly jumped out of the third-floor window of a courthouse in Yuksekova district in Turkey's southeastern Hakkari province, agencies reported.
Ferhat Atilgan, 26, went to the courthouse around 4 p.m. Friday to testify after being summoned by the prosecutor, his lawyer Dilvin Kepenek said.
Kepenek told Yuksekova news agency that the prosecutor asked the judges to put Atilgan behind bars after his questioning.
"The prosecutor claimed that [police] found DNA of my client in a glove used to make a Molotov cocktail from a 2015 case. There was no final arrest warrant yet," she said.
Atilgan was taken to the hospital in critical condition with serious injuries but could not be saved despite all efforts. He was buried the same day in the evening.
The Yuksekova district police department said an investigation into the incident had been launched.
No comment could initially be obtained from the prosecutor's office.
