Footage recorded by the security cameras inside the Adana Penitentiary clearly showed three guardians beating and bastinadoing an inmate

An inmate serving in a prison in Turkey’s southern Adana province suffered torture inflicted by the guardians, arti gercek Turkish reported.

Footage recorded by the security cameras inside the Adana Penitentiary clearly showed three guardians beating and bastinadoing Caner Sahin, who is currently serving a jail sentence of over 12 years for “causing injury with a firearm.”

Prosecutors in Adana started an investigation against the guardians after Sahin filed a criminal complaint that he was subjected to torture and beaten with batons and shields.

Nevertheless, the guards filed a report saying that Sahin injured them. The inmate remained in a solitary cell for 11 days due to the report prepared by the guards.

The torture claim was confirmed by a legal expert who analyzed the video footage.

“A person appears lying on his back with his feet up in the air. A prison guard who leans on the person who is laid on the ground beats this person. On the other hand, it was clearly seen that a prison guard hit the person lying on the ground in the bastinado position with the object in his hand (possibly a truncheon) under the feet of the person," tha report by the legal expert said.

The inmate’s father Huseyin told arti gercek that his son was on the verge of losing his mental health.

“We were waiting for something bad to happen at any moment. This situation affected my health and my mother's health very badly. My son has come to the point of losing his mental health because of what he went through during this process,” he said.
