Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, in a speech to a crowd, sharply berated the opposition while asking for support for himself in the upcoming elections

Speaking to a crowd in the western Turkish province of Aydin on Saturday, Turkey's President Tayyip Erdogan once again set aside political politeness to talk about his rival, main opposition leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu.

"With what face does Mr. Kemal hold to the slogan 'Enough! The nation will speak!'" he asked, referring to a 1950 election slogan whose date coincided with the upcoming elections, which Erdogan said will be held May 14.

At that time, the Democratic Party of Turkey (DP) defeated the CHP after 27 years of one-party rule.

"What are you shameless? This slogan belongs to us, with what face do you own it? On May 14, let's smash them so that they will never keep their backs straight again,' he said.

Erdogan often uses crude language when challenging his political rivals. He once referred to protesters as "sluts" and when confronted with criticism, defended himself by saying, "Sometimes I have to use strong words."
