Turkey saw a significant rise in mortality rates in 2020 and 2021, caused by the global Covid-19 outbreak, TUIK’s statistics showed on Thursday.

In 2021 and 2022, when the world was hit by the Covid 19 pandemic, the mortality rate in Turkey was much higher than normal, according to statistics released on Thursday by TUIK.

TUIK has come under criticism for not publishing statistics on deaths and causes of deaths for the last two years.

According to the report, the number of deaths increased by 16.5% from 435,941 in 2019 to 507,938 in 2020 and to 565,594 in 2021 with an increase of 11.4%.

While men's share of deaths increases from 54.6% in 2019 to 56% in 2020, women's share decreases from 45.4% in 2019 to 44% in 2020. In 2021, 54.6% of deaths were men and 45.4% were women.

MAIN CAUSE OF DEATH IS DISEASES OF THE CIRCULATORY SYSTEM

When the deaths were analyzed according to their causes, circulatory system diseases took the first place in both years. The rate of circulatory system diseases among deaths was 36 % in 2020 and 33.4% in 2021. This The main causes of death are diseases of the circulatory system

Death statistics by the Covid-19 pandemic in Turkey were also highly anticipated due to the delay in data from TUIK. According to the data, the number of deaths from Covid-19 is 22,136 in 2020 and 65,198 in 2021.

The group with the highest number of deaths from Covid-19 was the 65-74 age group in 2020 and the 75-84 age group in 2021.
