Turkey: Parents call for dismissal of principal who targeted reports on organized pedophilia
Parents of students of a distinguished high school in Turkey called for the "immediate dismissal" of the school's principal who tweeted against news reports on an incident of organized pedophilia.
An investigation was launched by the Ministry of Education into the social media posts of principal C.K., who said that "believers" should check the validity of a news when it has been delivered by "sinners," and that the reports are "slander."
The news reports in question have recently exposed that a young woman was placed by her father, a senior preacher for a religious community, in the hands of a 29-year-old neighbor when she was six years old, and that she was subjected to sexual abuse, and eventually to rape, in the course of her enforced relationship that first took the form of a religious marriage, than a civil one.
The parents of students of Cagaloglu Anadolu Highschool said Tuesday on Twitter:
"Our struggle for our children's security, for their right to a modern and scientific education, and for our school's deep-rooted, strong identity will continue. We only ask that the principal is immediately removed from his post."
Some of the parents also gathered in front of the school on Tuesday to hold a protest and read out a public statement.
The alumni association of the school earlier announced on Sunday its decision to cut ties with the school administration till the current officials are replaced, and to suspend all projects and funding.
