Police violence continues against HDP in Istanbul

Riot police in Istanbul violently prevented a gathering by the Peoples’ Democratic Party in Kadikoy’s district of Istanbul

Police detained 35 members of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in Kadikoy district of Istanbul as the oppression continued towards a demonstration by the party, one day after police slapped the face of a senior party official.

Riot police violently prevented the gathering after the HDP members attempted to make a press statement in front of the party building. The demonstrators, including deputies from the party were surrounded by the police as the Co-Chairs Pervin Buldan and Mithat Sancar entered the building.

On Sunday during a demonstration in the same place, a police officer slapped Ferhat Encu on the face right in front of the cameras. The Istanbul provincial head of the HDP was later detained and released on the same day.

The police officer who slapped Encu was also on duty on Monday, the reports said.

According to reports, Encu was detained once again in reverse handcuffs on Monday.
