The death of a six year old girl exposed the dreadful conditions of living that she suffered along with her brothers under the guardianship of her aunt and uncle in Turkey’s central city of Eskisehir

Police arrested the relatives of a six year old girl who reportedly died from malnourishment and unhealthy living conditions with her two other brothers while their parents were both imprisoned in Turkey’s central Eskisehir, T24 website reported.

The images published in Turkish media of the house where Elif Nur lived with her two brothers showed the lack of care the children suffered while neighbors said aunt Deniz T. and uncle Sezer T. also tortured the little children. Both relatives were jailed pending trial after their police custody. Police also search for a grandmother who is currently missing.

Elif Nur’s parents who could join the funeral with a special permission from the ministry of justice burst into tears as they hugged each other among a stack of military police.

Elif Nur was found by neighbors two days prior of her death in poor conditions. She was immediately taken to a hospital but doctors failed to keep her alive despite all efforts. Her brothers Yigitcan (9) and Metin (12) were taken by the social services personnel to a facility where they started to receive treatment.

One neighbor said: “These kids were saved thanks to news that broke out after the death of Elif Nur.”
