More than half of Turkey’s population said they are facing discrimination due to their political beliefs, according to a November report by Monitoring Association for Equal Rights.

The report compiling data from a “Discrimination Research in Turkey” showed that a total of 54.3 percent of the respondents believe that they are discriminated because of their political views, while 36.6 percent said they are discriminated for their migrant identity.

According to the report, 36.3 percent said they are facing discrimination due to their gender, 25.8 percent for their ethnicity and 26.5 percent for their religious beliefs, Euronews said.

A total of 85.7 percent of the respondents said “No” in response to a question whether the existing laws in Turkey are sufficient to prevent discrimination or not. Only 10.4 percent said “Yes”.

A total of 81.6 percent also think that people who discriminate are not punished for their actions, the report showed.
