Turkey: Six parties ready to declare electoral alliance
Six left-wing parties and groups, the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), Labour Party (EMEP), Workers' Party of Turkey (TIP), Labor Movement Party (EHP), Social Freedom Party (TOP) and the Federation of Socialist Assemblies (SMF), announced on Thursday that they are ready to form an alliance to compete in the coming 2023 elections.
HDP released a press statement after the meeting, saying;
“We have gathered once more on 25 August in Istanbul to demonstrate our unity that will help bring a change towards equality, freedom, fraternity, peace, and democracy, to forge a political and social will, and to start a march that will enhance our determined stance, struggle, solidarity and hopes.”
It added that the alliance will grow with the participation of others who resist against the hostile policies of the ruling coalition, those who want to get rid of the current regime, and who want to have corrupt officials brought to justice.
HDP received 11.7% of the popular vote in the last general election and has the third largest number of duties in the Turkish Grand Assembly.
