Imprisoned Selahattin Demirtas mocked the ruling block in Turkey in a series of tweets containing cartoons that asked the audience what they would do if they saw thieves at their houses in the middle of the night.

“You hear some clatter from the living room at night. You get up and see that a thief had stuffed your belongings in a sack and carry it on their back. But he is dusting around as well. What would you say?”

Options:

  •  He is stealing but also working
  • Let me call the police

His second tweet asked:

“You hear some clatter from the living room at night. You get up and see the same thief. What would you say?”

Options:

  • He is local and national, he can steal
  • Let me call the police

His third tweet said:

“At night, the living room, same thief”

[The cartoon translates as: “I'm looking for a prayer rug, sister. For the sake of Allah, let me pray and leave.”]

  • Let me call the police

Fourth tweet asked:

“Night again, still the same thief. This time he has both the police and the prosecutor with him. What would you say?”

  • Let me bury him in the ballot box
