Pro-government newspaper Yeni Safak intensified tensions by accusing Constitutional Court members of supporting terrorism

The pro-government Islamist newspaper Yeni Safak has targeted members of the Constitutional Court (AYM) with a headline reading 'They Opened the Door to FETO and PKK,' due to the decision of Can Atalay.

The publication of photos and the subsequent targeting of AYM members have ignited tensions, reminiscent of a tragic incident in 2006 when a similar report by another Islamist newspaper led to the assassination of a member of the Council of State.

The fallout from Can Atalay's decision continues as pressure mounts on AYM members who, despite legal obligations, are accused of disregarding the constitutional will. The chaos deepened with the Court of Cassation's second statement, accusing the AYM of exceeding its authority. Political figures, including President Tayyip Erdoğan, weighed in, with the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) also stating intentions to either close or restructure the AYM. Amidst these developments, Yeni Safak's online publication further fueled tensions.
