Turkey: Officials furled rainbow umbrella during Soylu’s speech
It was a rainy day in Turkey’s profoundly conservative northern city of Trabzon near Black Sea coast where an elderly gentleman was happy to attend an event by Suleyman Soylu, Turkey’s interior minister.
He happened to bring his relatively large umbrella, but apparently the meaning of its rainbow pattern eluded him, as he happily listened to the minister speak while holding the umbrella in all good conscience.
But an aide intervened soon enough to the absurd scene where famously anti-LGBT Soylu conducted his speech with a rainbow backdrop.
After the aide talked to the elderly person, he swiftly furled his umbrella with an apparent shame on his face.
