"I could not say that I have the expertise of an architect in this field," Prof. Kapansahin had said after his appointment to a faculty of architecture as the dean.

A theologian with expertise in history resigned a week after he was appointed the dean of a faculty of architecture in Turkey, reportedly following reactions on social media.

Muhittin Kapansahin, professor of medieval history and the author of a book titled Kanuni's Western Policy, recently told Turkish broadcaster BRTV after the appointment went public:

"Architecture and urbanization are among my fields of study and I have given lectures on related topics, but I could not say that I received an education on architecture and that I have the expertise of an architect in this field. I would not be able to claim anything like that."

Turkish journalist and opinion writer Fatih Altayli thanked Kapansahin, saying:

"Muhittin Karasahin, the dean of Karabuk University's faculty of architecture, resigned a short while ago. It's wonderful hearing that there are still some people who are in recollection of such an institution. I express my gratitude to him."
