Turkish national team's coach dismissed after tie with Armenia
Turkish national football team's coach Stefan Kuntz was recently dismissed after the team got a tie with Armenia on 8 September, daily Milliyet reported on Sunday.
The Turkish national team drew 1-1 with Armenia in the European Qualifiers Group match, after winning three matches and losing one. Turkey is currently ranked second in the group after Croatia and is actually quite likely to qualify for UEFA Europe 2024 final tournament.
Mehmet Buyukeksi, the President of the Turkish Football federation, told Milliyet's Atilla Gokce that "Kuntz shot himself on the leg."
Kuntz, a German professional football manager and former player of the German national team, was appointed as the new head coach of the Turkish national team on 19 September 2021.
He earlier served as the coach of Germany U21 and won the UEFA European Under-21 Championship twice.
Kuntz's dismissal left the Turkish national team without a head coach a very short time before a critical match against Croatia in October. In the previous match, Croatia beat Turkey 2-0.
