Recep Tayyip Erdogan has addressed a group of Muslim worshipers from the imam's pulpit in a mosque, and was responded with takbir and amen.

Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan publicly prayed to God on Friday for being granted the opportunity to "go on conquests."

Erdogan stepped up on the pulpit of a mosque in Istanbul's Kisikli neighborhood after the Friday prayer he attended to address a group of Muslim worshipers .

He said:

"I have faith in our nation, in the ummah [community of Muslims]. May God grant us the opportunity to go on many conquests. May God provide us with the strength to start preparing for these conquests."

His sermon-like address was accompanied by the crowd with takbir (Arabic phrase meaning "God is Greatest") and his remarks on conquests were responded with utterances of "amen."

Erdogan will run for a third term in the presidential election runoff on Sunday, against the opposition's candidate Kemal Kilicdaroglu, who earlier made it public for the first time that he is of Alevi faith.

Erdogan received 49.5% of the vote in the first round against Kilicdaroglu's 44.9%.
